Founded in 1911, ASSE is the oldest and largest professional safety organization. Its more than 30,000 members manage, supervise and consult on safety, health, and environmental issues in industry, insurance, government and education. ASSE is guided by a 16-member Board of Directors, which consists of 8 regional vice presidents; three council vice presidents; society president, president-elect, senior vice president, vice president of finance and executive director. ASSE has 13 practice specialties, 150 chapters, 56 sections and 64 student sections. Practice specialties include Academics, construction, consultants, engineering, environmental, healthcare, industrial hygiene, international, management, mining, public sector, risk management, and transportation.
The Savannah Chapter was started as an ASSE ad hoc committee in November 1976. The Savannah committee became an ASSE section in October 1979 with John Wilder as Chairman (John is still active in the chapter). In April 1980, the Savannah Chapter was formed. For 30 years the Savannah Chapter has worked to promote the advancement of the safety profession and EH&S professionals along Georgia's coast. Our Chapter’s boundaries range from Savannah to Brunswick, and encompass over 10 counties within the coastal Georgia region.
The Savannah Chapter, part of ASSE Region IV, offers localized membership services, networking and professional development opportunities through seminars, conferences, meetings, and newsletters. Members are professionals from throughout Eastern Georgia, who work in the environmental, health & safety field, dedicating our time and expertise to the protection of our fellow workers and the environment.
